Sustainability In Sri Lanka

Sustainability In Textiles
The collaborative program aims to help manufacturers overcome the funding hurdles of implementing sustainable practices.
Zydex’s Epricon printing system represents a ground-breaking advancement in textile printing, utilizing co-polymer acrylic binder chemistry to deliver ultra-soft prints with depth, brightness, and a feel comparable to reactive prints. This innovative technology eliminates the need for washing processes, reduces print rejections, and enhances productivity and profitability.
Fashion for Good and Textile Exchange introduce the Tracing Textile Waste Project, a two-year, multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at harmonising data and system capabilities in the reverse supply chain. This project seeks to create alignment through an open-source data template and a glossary of terms. It will establish and validate a standardised framework for collecting and exchanging textile waste data between the point of origin and recyclers. A key objective is to deliver recommendations to Textile Exchange for the development of new and existing standards, including the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and Recycled Claim Standard (RCS).
Global Fashion Regulations
Proposed by the European Commission in 2022, the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) has finally reached the end of the legislative process, with the publication in the Official Journal on the 5th of July and entry into force on the 25th of July.
The apparel sector does not recycle much clothing or textile yet, but recycling is becoming standard practice in Europe more and more. The main reason is stricter legislation, of which the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rule is an example.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has announced the launch of its new GRI-ESRS Linkage Service to help companies align their sustainability reporting with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
Despite squeezing past the New York State Assembly’s Ways and Means Committee in the final hours of Albany’s legislative session on Friday, the bill formally known as the Fashion Sustainability and Social Accountability Act didn’t get to the floor in time for a vote.
Under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws for packaging, producers in the United States are obligated to join Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), report packaging data, and pay fees in order to sell products in (or into) certain states.
Neighborhood Watch
The stakes are high for Vietnam’s garment and textile sector as key exports markets and competing producer markets intensify their push for green targets, influencing brand appeal to consumers and sourcing decisions by global fashion retailers.
According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), as of the end of May 2024, Vietnam’s textile and garment sector had attracted over US$37 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI). This substantial inflow underscores the sector’s potential, particularly as global markets shift towards sustainable development.
The Union textiles ministry of India is learned to be providing supports to 150 startups which are working in technical textiles sector. The grants to the startups would be up to ₹50 lakh each. The funding will be generated from a ₹375 crore allocation for FY25 under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).
The Future Supplier Initiative has launched its first collective financing model in Bangladesh with H&M Group, Gap Inc, Mango and Bestseller to support apparel suppliers with the move towards decarbonisation.
